A story About Gratitude

 

I’m thinking about gratitude this morning… 💭

On a family vacation in Tampa at my auntie’s house (I flew everyone out for my cousin’s graduation)… I needed to run an errand with the rental… my big sister Tanya asked where I was going and I said, “Walmart”. She said, “Can I go?” and I said, “of course!”

So we got into my Ford Flex 🚙 which I loved and was super excited about… I was very into vehicles with 3 rows of seats at the time because it would have been perfect for my vacation tour business… anyway…

I’m in the driver’s seat, setting up Apple Play 📱and I glance back through the rear view mirror to see my big sister way in the third row seat, buckled in with the biggest smile on her face and just gazing happily out of the window. I could tell that she was super excited and super happy. So, I asked, “What are you so happy about sis?”. Thinking maybe something happened and she had good news to share…

She said, “I’m just happy to be here!”.…. it was then (in my Morgan Freeman voice 🧔🏾‍♂️) that I knew she was the most grateful person I know… 

Just happy and elated to be in Tampa, in the third row seat of a Ford, buckled in and going to Walmart on my errand…  She was simply happy for that. She taught me a valuable lesson on gratitude that day…. one I have never forgotten… and will never forget...

If you are looking through the right lens… you can let go of past troubles and future concerns and just be present, in the moment and grateful simply for life… we can chose to be grateful all the time, even for the smallest of things… even amidst life happening… even when you have good reasons not to be… especially, when you have good reasons not to be… 

This memory comes up for me frequently. It makes me happy and checks me back to having a grateful spirit… Now, i’m grateful every day and I aspire to have the level of gratitude that my big sister has…
